Ballard Rugby Tournament

Under 11 Tag Rugby Championships 2015 at Ballard School

After intensive training with Mr Doll and Mrs Moosun, the 2 LJS squads were well prepared for this year’s competition and were determined to defend their title as District Champions.

Once camp had been set up, attention turned to progressing through pool games of 5 mins each way.

On Pitch 2 the LJS Tigers achieved mixed results losing to Hyde 6-5, drawing with Milford 6-6, losing to Hordle 6-5 and beating Pennington B 9-4. Placed 4th in Pool B they then played the 3rd placed team from pool and won 6-4. This meant progression to a quarter final of the Plate competition against Abbotswood B which ended in defeat 4-6.

As neither teams progressed to the semifinals, Mr Willis, formerly of LJS but now a teacher at Milford, invited The Tigers to a friendly 11 a side. This was great fun and a chance to run off some excess energy and to enjoy light hearted competition.

On pitch 1 the LJS Lions were dominant in their pool with wins over Our Lady, Ballard B and Cadland. As Pool A winners Lions were up against Milford as the 2nd placed team in Pool B. An exciting match ended with LJS victorious 9-5.

The quarter final of The Championship beckoned and LJS emerged comfortable winners over Abbotswood A by 8-5. The semifinal was another display of dominance winning 5-3.

The Final was a hotly contested affair against Marchwood A and despite every effort The Lions were unseated as Champions by an outstanding display of rugby from the opposition. As runners–up The Lions will represent The New Forest in the Hampshire County Finals in June.

Well done everyone. You did yourselves, your coaches and the school proud.
